The ancient relationship of a woman to a goddess is very close to the surface in this body of work. Febuary 2022, "Lady Mehndi was chosen for "Her Story," Juried Exhibition of Art by "Women Artists," Manhattan Arts, Renee Philips, Curator. "Lady Mehndi" vessel image refers to the ancient Indian art of Mehndi, a traditional form of body art or temporary tattoo. It is made from red henna powder which has been ground into a powder and painted into intricate designs onto a bride’s hands. In this art work “Lady Mehndi,” intricate designs are drawn on the hands of a half woman, half vessel. As in the actual ceremony, this piece celebrates the transition of an ordinary woman into a special bride, a goddess for her wedding day. Urn shapes in my art are referenced from pottery of the Greek, Mineon & Mycenaean ages. In my art, I revisit early pottery images and convert these forms into modern day statements. In this piece goddess myths are juxtaposed against present day female imagery. My images of ancient urns and vessels transform into metaphors for the female figure. The female vessel or urn themes are manipulated through various mediums and “playfully” adjusted to “tell a story,” such as “Lady Mehndi This mono-print vessel image gives to the viewer interesting surface textures, rich colorations and movement. The goddess stands with her hands revealing her tattoo statement, as life and a breath of air emerges. “Lady Mehndi” mono print original art is available as a print from the Saatchi site.

My art is rich with painterly textures, layers of color on color and whimsical washes. Multi-layered paintings, drawings and mono-prints are created using various mediums, including chalk pastels to chunks of vibrant acrylic paints, oil encaustics and delicate, dribbles of gold leaf. “Nature Close-up” series and “Feminine” series are exhibited on Saatchi Art site. “Nature Closeup,” artwork blends patterns in tide-marks, colors of sea grass as well as layers of the earth to express soulful, ethereal design. Raised in the country, I have closely observed earth’s formations which has become a thematic influence in my work. Inspired by old growth forests, desert landscapes and west coast beaches, my desire is to share a visually healing meditation on environmental beauty. The beauty of the air or atmosphere around sky, water and landforms are translated into calm, reflective art works. “Feminine” artworks are represented with vividly painted manuscripts, as well as mono-prints representing modern day women. Female gender is explored from modern day women to the ancient vessels of canvases and paper art. Through out all my art work is a love of color and soulful expression.
