About The Artwork
This work was inspired by ancient Greek mythology, the work of Renaissance sculptors, and small bronzes of the French and Italian 19th century. A satyr, the mythological man-animal, plays his reed flute, hypnotizing a woodland nymph who invites him to join in her dance. The sculpture was created during a time when I was focusing on mastering traditional sculpture materials, methods, and subjects.
