This piece is inspired by coastal architecture , harbours , jetties , piers , ships , rigs and sea defences. The ceramic forms are textured and have an aged , weathered quality .They are attached to a bronze platform on three steel legs.
The bronze form below hangs and swings from a steel chain.
The piece is evocative of the industrialised landscape in the North East of Britain , some of it being slowly reclaimed by nature and the elements.

Drawing, making, manipulating and constructing with materials and media are my starting points for making works. I am interested in and inspired by my environment, especially the coast and nature. In particular the way that man made structures and objects interact with the natural world , weather ,decay and slowly return to nature. My work is also influenced by 20th century modernist, cubist and constructivist art. I have made work in several mediums currently preferring to work with clay , metal , reclaimed and recycled materials. Works often start with drawn ideas but usually go there own way in the process of making. I find Picasso's quote ' Inspiration exists but it has to find you working' to be true. Experimenting with materials , forms , techniques ,building and making often produces an interesting piece which only when complete can be named , labelled or rationalised. Works are in private collections in UK , Europe , USA and Australia.
