A modern copper plated sculpture representing the Elemental nature of the wind and sea. The unusual and striking finish of the metal is achieved through chemical patination techniques. The process is one that I love as you cannot completely predict how the finished result will look. Developing the sculpture I concentrated on the proccess of using repetitive form of material - flat steel bar, to generate concepts and capture the movement of elemental reactions. No two of my sculptures are ever the same, but similar sculptures can be commissioned and can be sized to fit any space. Sculptures for outside would be made from stainless steel, but could still be plated in other metals if desired.

Working predominantly in metals, I create an eclectic range of sculpture and contemporary furniture. Highly aesthetic in nature, you will find much of my work curvaceous and tactile, but with a coarseness that is lent from working with bare steel or stainless steel. My style ranges from figurative to abstract and is always in context with its environment. My current collection "˜Elements' focuses on Earth, Air, Water and Fire, and describes the reaction of when those elements meet. Developing the collection I concentrated on the proccess of using repetitive form of material - flat steel bar, to generate concepts and capture the movement of elemental reactions. The forms are designed appropriately for indoor display, but are perfectly suited to larger scale and outside installations for private or public spaces. http://www.philipmelling.co.uk http://www.artquid.com/artist/philipmelling/philip-melling.html htt
