In this piece I wanted to create a kind of 'brain defibrillation' effect - to short-circuit one's synapses and wake them out of their own background narrative as to what pertains to their 'normality', and force them to question their reality by contrasting obvious 'time shifts' - with a little humourous twist at the end when they ultimately realise what the title refers to. Having been a music producer and composer for over two decades, I was always interested in the concept of 'sampling'. Here, I 'sampled' images that were made several hundred years ago - and juxtaposed them with a modern skyline in a surreal landscape, hoping to reveal perhaps some of the unusual thought processes that humans seem to always have had, whilst reanimating long forgotten works by these artists from the past. The background is painted with oils on a wooden board, then transferred to photoshop where the rest of the collage took place. I find the fusing of these two very different approaches to be a rewarding journey, as the result is very organic - I know not where the path is taking me until I've arrived! The ltd run of 5 will be water-resistant HD metal prints on aluminium

Austria
Originally from the south-west of England, I moved to a remote valley in the Austrian Alps around ten years ago. Art was always a huge part of my childhood - I would draw and paint every day. I studied for a year at a college in North London, and although being offered a place at university, I guess I wasn't ready, as I chose to 'live life' at the time instead. This led me to my other passion, music, and I ended up pursuing this as a career for several decades, creating a soundware business, writing music for film and tv, as well as releasing several albums that achieved cult status amongst many record collectors. However...I missed art....a lot. And so, I've returned to it with a passion. I live in a very unusual location - 1000 metres above sea-level in the mountains. Living in such a remote place for a decade has had a huge effect on my perception of reality - how I see the world - life - history - humans - robots! Tradition here is so palpable - change is frowned upon - in many areas hay is still cut with a scythe and raked by hand - religion is all around - dead Jesus' hang bleeding on crosses by the roadsides. All of this feeds into my understanding of the human condition - for better or for worse - and I can't help but be 'inspired' by this. The contrast of this almost story-book existence with the internet and the push for a digital society is very much on my mind - I suppose much of my work is my brain trying to quantify this - as if two worlds are colliding and we are at the rubicon - I hope it resonates with some of you.
