About The Artwork
Preacher We met one afternoon at Fish Hoek beach, Cape Town. He was tall and thin, dressed just in the long shirt made from a jute sack with feathers in his beard and deep calm, happy eyes. We set in the sand. He was telling me about his belief, about Christianity, the oath of poverty, and how happy and free he is. I was fascinated by his eyes, so calm and full of light. I made a few photographs which he didn’t mind and was even more surprised that he didn’t ask for a donation. Later I saw an African mask that somehow reminded me of the Preacher, made a photo and merge them. Have a feeling that they belong to each other.
