About The Artwork

Portraying the human essence is at the heart of my artistic practice. As I observe people in their various contexts - joy, sorrow, love, strength and resilience become the pigments of my palette, allowing me to craft detailed compositions, capturing the vibrant energy and vitality of the subjects. My dynamic visual narrative experiments with the deconstruction of factual detail and are constructed through visual play of marks and washes - an essence of the person. My signature style comes to life in the series. The expressive use of colours and forms allows me to convey the dynamism of my subjects. The art is then put through digital manipulations by layering my drawings with photographs to arrive at an altered reality. This is the junction at which point I must let go and the image evolve digitally. I am consciously playing with real and imagined imagery through photography and drawing to cross a reality threshold and create a visual celebration that mirrors the essence of my subjects. I feel excited about working on this grey area between both the real and imagined imagery to create intricate visual narratives that are unique and captivating.
