About The Artwork

This is the third artwork in the Ancient Faces series. This piece is based on the art and culture of the Viking civilization. The Vikings in my artwork are not wearing the iconic horned helmets that are so often associated with the culture, because they didn't actually wear horned helmets. The horns were actually added by the Christian monks that wanted to 'demonize' the Viking people for their raids on monastic sites and settlements. If the Vikings did wear any appendages on their helmets, it was wings, especially portrayed in their depictions of the Valkyries. This work has been executed using different size technical pens on hotpressed watercolour paper because this medium lends itself to the creation of highly detailed work. It is framed in a contemporary black frame with white mount.
