About The Artwork

Originating from the Molucca Islands (Indonesia), they grew only on one of them, Ternate: in 1602 Ternate was under the complete control of the Dutch, who had founded the East India Company. The Dutch kept the location of supply secret, burning all contraband plantations and setting a strict export limit. Only one of these smuggled trees miraculously managed to survive: it was called the "Afo" tree and grew at the foot of the Gamalama volcano on the island of Ternate. In 1770, the French missionary Pierre Poivre removed the seeds from this tree and brought them to Africa, to Zanzibar and the Seychelles: since then, one of the major suppliers of cloves, together with the Moluccas, has become the coral island of Pemba in East Africa, and the Dutch lost their monopoly on cloves. This drawing was presented at two of my solo exhibitions entitled "The Battle of the Spices": in February and March 2023 at the Museo del Presente in Rende and at the Pinacoteca Provinciale di Potenza in October 2023. One of the works in this series was acquired for the Pinakothek collection.

I was born in the USSR. Four months after I turned 16, and received a passport from the Soviet Union, this state ceased to exist and I became a citizen of the new Russia. In my roots there is half Tatar blood and half Russian blood. I have been living and working in Italy since 2015. My childhood was lived in the name of respect and love for different languages and cultures; for this reason I cultivate many interests and my curiosity has become a starting point in art. I appreciate good humor and treat myself with great self-irony. I have always passionately studied history, archeology and art history, and this can be seen in my works. I graduated in Theater Direction: I like to imagine and draw unusual stories, and storytelling and the construction of conflict constitute an important part of my pictorial interests. I don't like identifying with styles and trends, art critics know how to do it better than me and for me.
