Many times, I am inspired by a personal interpretation of news stories that catch my attention in a subtle way. The news that moves me the most often relates to the environment. In the case of this drawing, the inspiration came from news about mining and oil extraction in Colombia and its impact on the environment. Interestingly, there were several oil spills and mining accidents that, for some reason, I saw frequently in the news and newspapers of the time. The most concerning aspect was reading that in all of them, it was stated that the damage is done and the contamination will remain for decades. Obviously, the entire ecosystem will be severely affected, and recovery will not be easy. I am a Colombian artist with over 20 years of experience. Throughout my artistic practice, experimentation has been the cornerstone of many of my projects. I typically develop series where my main interest is to work on concepts such as time, the ephemeral, the eternal, ecological themes, social-environmental awareness, and personal topics. Through observing my reality, I delve into the responsibility of our actions, concluding that as human beings, we must embrace nature since we are part of it. Understanding the importance of my inner world, as well as that of all individuals, has always been linked to my work, while not neglecting to critique society which, in my view, prioritizes material interests over harmony and balance with the environment. However, I also reflect on my own life; I am very self-critical, analyzing my own processes of physical and mental transformation, accepting and recognizing myself, which is reflected in much of my work. All of this has led me to think about human survival, particularly my own, my son's, and my family's. In this way, I contemplate how to solve and generate changes from individuality and social consciousness through my language, art.
