About The Artwork
Inspired by nature and the idea of creating something real from memory, as in a dream, I intend to bring the viewer into the landscape of my thought life. I intentionally give a minimalistic approach to the tree in order that the viewer might attempt to finish it within their own imagination and share the idea with myself. I want the viewer to want to see the tree in their mind, using the image I have presented them as a starting point. It becomes like a conversation in this way. I share something, and they respond and complete the thought, or take it perhaps on a new direction entirely. I've rendered the image in a realistic/surrealistic fashion to bring the viewer into a whimsical dreamlike state. Charcoal is the perfect medium for adding and subtracting in order to give a ghost like quality which I value in my work. I want it to haunt the viewer, and to entice them to think with me.

I was born in Alaska, grew up in Arizona, and attended college for art at Binghamton University in Binghamton, NY. Now, I have moved back to Arizona and currently live in Kingman. Currently I study Art History at ASU and teach art online while producing abstract and landscape pieces. My creative interests include using the language of art to innitiate a dialogue with the viewer.
