«Rusty knives» - collection - rusty knife 8 -Andreas Dimensions 52*42*6.3 cm (20.47 *16.53 *2.48 inches) There are some gifts, which appear as such from the beginning. Somebody has beauty, another has talent in languages, maths, arts, etc. It's obvious that this kind of qualities are gifts for a person helping one to have better, full life. But also there are those named mishaps, suffering, disasters. Painful conditions. If such conditions are met at childhood, pain can last for years, even for ever. These old wounds are the rusty knifes. 'Rusty' for old and 'knife' for wound. One' s knife image has an intense, hard impact to the viewer but here, through art, a transubstantiation of this “knifal” energy is being attempted. Perhaps fear and detestation related to the knife, can be transformed to a belief that these knifes are bringing presents as well. Maybe a little bit hidden ones, but still, valuable. Eight knifes are presented into a mixed media technique that combines painting, sewing, and ready or recycled objects. The whole compositions are posed into diy framing constructions. Each art work is accompanied by a text making it specific and unique, for each knife, both the disaster and the gift. It's about the answers of 8 people to same question, this one: Has it ever happened to you that something primarily looking as great misfortune or disaster turned out to be a gift? Andreas is rusty knife eight and he answers Yes. One of my parents had overly high expectations from me. I had to be the best in school, abeyant, and always succeed in everything. I ended up an anxious adult with panic attacks, addictions and terrible headaches. It was a matter of survival to break free from all these and I made it by changing my way of life. I finally adopted everyday habits that embellish my life, I learned to accept myself and other people more. Trying the routes that don’t bring happiness I learned to exclude them marching more and more confident that I do it right.
