About The Artwork

Inspired by a fire I saw in the Hetch Hetchy Valley, this reminds me of the thousands of trees that burned while I was shooting the landscape. As part of my photonic process, this is finished on 2.5 inch gallery canvas wrap with wire for hanging on back.

Award winning landscape photographer, painter, and digital artist based in Hana, Maui. From an early age, Michael started picking up visual art cues from his father and grandfather as they commented in the living room on TV commercials and films they had worked on. These early influences fueled an instinct to create, and a passion to convey emotions and tell stories through any available medium he could get his hands on. Though Michael is considered a self-taught artist, he credits his family and friends to be his primary influences. Working in film and TV (the family biz) eventually led to design and publishing of print and digital media, allowing him to hone his craft and become a well rounded artist. Michael's commercial images have found their way into magazines, books, and calendars. In the last several years Michael has been focusing on attaining a Master Photographer Degree and continuing to express himself through acrylic and digital painting. He is an IPC Gold and Silver Medalist (PPA), Viewbug curator, and proud contributor to the LAC+USC Healing Through Art Program. His love for the outdoors and dedication to environmental awareness has fueled him to collect a considerable portfolio of wilderness photographs, some of which can be seen in his 2016 book, Sacred Waterfalls.
