About The Artwork
War is a terrible thing. This series is inspired by people's strength and vulnerability in the midst of ongoing violent conflict. Ultimately it is about dignity and the human spirit. The work is created with a technique I developed called an “OilGraph.” It is a mixed media process using traditional film photographs shot by myself and custom printed in the darkroom, mounted onto wooden panels, textured with acrylic underpainting with a final application of oil paint. In the case of this piece I used gunpowder and other explosives to create the dark, burnt textures. It is an uncontrollable process and risks the destruction of the piece every single time.
