About The Artwork

I set out to create a meditative image than might lead viewers just to let their minds go where they want. I visited a lot of museums in NYC this year. I drew inspiration from Warhol for his bravado and from Rothko just from his sheer talent and the courage to make his paintings so big. In Spain in 2013 I drew inspiration from Picasso's early works in Barcelona as well as from Joan Miro. I paint in acrylic partly for the easy cleanup, but also because it lets you rework surfaces much quicker that oil, so you can paint over and rework on the same day. This is good for someone with a short attention span like me. Lately my goal has just been to let myself feel as I am painting, not let the controlling part of the brain run the show. Essentially I just keep working until I think I've created something dynamic, something I can live with when I wake up the next day. I guess paintings are somewhat like lovers or like one's children. You've got to be proud of them and be able to exist with them.

Born and raised in The Bronx, New York, USA. Currently residing in Mamaroneck, New York. Truthful distillation of emotion is art. Works that communicate this honesty, regardless of technical skill, merit consideration. As for interpreting the work, as the saying goes, there is no arguing about taste. The cavemen at Lascaux were trying to capture the spirit and energy of the animals they painted on their walls; they communicated this by using the forms, textures, lines, colors, sounds, tastes and smells of those animals. Any artwork that achieves a comparable magic can strike resonant emotional chords.
