'Crocodile Walk' is a beautiful, rural location in Gigaro, Provence, South of France and painted by the Award Winning Artist, Janet Gammans. The painting has been inspired by my time spent in France by the coast and living the country life. This being one of my favorite locations where the light is pure and color bright. I therefore used a palette of bright green tones with blue, turquoise liberally applied with palette knife to create an impressionistic, contemporary style large art piece full of energy, depth with contrasting light against dark tones. Acrylic is my favorite medium to work with 'en plein air; because of the fast drying nature of the paint on canvas. It allows me to capture and express the initial mood and atmosphere of the location at the time of painting and hope that this conveys to the viewer a sense of 'being' and presence in the heart of the countryside in Southern France. I find that it's not just what you paint, but how you paint it that is important and will always try to stay true to a subject in my interpretation. The canvas has been framed in a white, painted solid wood floating frame giving the image a crisp edge to the finished piece. All fixtures and fittings are in place and therefore ready to hang! The style of painting would suit many home interiors including contemporary and the more traditional style. It will give great impact and focus to a large wall area wherever you might choose. It will hopefully give the viewer an uplifting memory of natural beauty reminiscent of rural Provence.

Janet works from her studio in South Cambridgeshire, as a freelance artist, supplying semi abstract, impressionistic and fine art to publishing companies worldwide. Her paintings are sold from galleries throughout the South of England and internationally via the web. She has become a much recognized artist for her subject matter and her unique creative style of work. ʺI enjoy experimenting with all mediums but watercolor and acrylic are the ones I find most satisfying. Depending on the subject, I find that it would either lend itself more to the delicate touches of watercolor or to the stronger and more vibrant colors of acrylic paint and each would allow me to translate a ‘mood’ a subject might evoke”. I have come to realize that it’s not ‘what you paint’ that is important, but ‘how you paint it’. So in my interpretation of painting a subject, I try to maintain the essence of what first inspired me to paint it. For me, what is fundamental in my paintings are light, subtlety of color, harmony, depth and drama, while still staying true to the subject. In my finished work, I hope that I have conveyed to the viewer a sense of mood, which was present at the time of painting it.ʺ
