About The Artwork

This is the first painting in my "Being Light" painting series currently on display at the North Bank Gallery in Vancouver, WA. Although primarily acrylic, this piece has a lot of collage and mixed media- the Tibetan people behind the flag, the lotus, and white river flowing from it are actually formed out of paper, the Tibetan Prayer Flags are made from pieces of my own that had been out on my deck for 5 years, and if you look closely in the peacock you can see pieces of doilies that have been cut up.

I have fused my passion for creating art with my desire to inspire young artists as a visual art teacher in the public schools for the last 7 years. I began my career as an artist selling commissioned portrait drawings in high school and college. I love to work with expressive, layered, often figurative work in clay, painting, drawing, and mixed media/collage. For the last 5 years I've taught visual art at Vancouver School of Arts and Academics and recently received my National Board Certification in Art Education. Currently I am developing a large scale portrait series of world and spiritual leaders who have dedicated their lives to "˜living' and "˜being' peace in the world. The work infuses symbolism, collage, and realism, representing the essence of each subject and the environment/culture they come from. The goal is to represent people from all continents, communicating unity in Spirit of those who truly live, and have lived the Way of Peace.
