About The Artwork

Like 1 and 3 in this batch, the erasure or damage, along with the appropriation, is a specific strategy to subvert, both the original sham message and the current trend of misinformation. The viewer cannot apprehend the original image and the superscription of the abstract dappling. Furthermore many cannot read the Cyrillic. Protest in many parts of the world is illegal, and the rise of Russian activism against the mobilisation is somewhat surprising. In 1977 I had long hair (looking a bit like Nana Mouskouri with my heavy-rimmed specs and the turnunder of my bangs), and entered the country wearing a black roll-neck jumper and a maroon velvet jacket with a large ankh on a chain round my neck. The border guard took a long time to decide to let me in. I went with my old school (they needed a certain number of boys to get the free teacher places so a couple of ex-students were invited. I saw Brezhnev and Castro in a Zil in the Kremlin. I spent 1 day in the Hermitage. It was mind-boggling. I would love to return for the art and architecture. I am now somewhat fascinated by grappling. The Russianss love it and post often on YouTube where I see it as a metaphor for the terrible attrition in the Donbas. All war is hopeless, the worst humanity has to offer.

I have over 20,000 finished pieces now. Some are very small, but some are 8' across. I do representational work as well as abstract, but am concentrating on the latter at the moment. The work is big and bold, but I believe there has to be a symbolic framework within a painting for it to have any proper meaning. I often incorporate myths and legends. I truly have become the paradigm for 'a starving artist.' I have reduced my budget to a pound a day, and rely on food bank handouts to survive. I spend far too much on paint! Thank you to everyone who has bought my work. I hope the pictures bring you much joy. You indirectly support CAYAC. This is an organisation I set up to support young people in the county in a time of slashed funding and under-appreciation of the subject in schools. It stands for The Cambridgeshire Area Young Artist Competition. In a bid to rustle up some sales, I will be slashing prices over the next few weeks. I feel that I have to engage with this art-world thing as much as I can. I have just hit 60 and do not want to be like Vincent van Gogh, successful after my demise! ferrispictures.com thesaffronwaldengallery.com
