The 'Figures In A Souk' Series of paintings are Inspired by Rembrandt, Turner and Rothko. (mostly) You will see here some works that are not for sale.. but if you look around the collection you will see the same paintings now for sale but with futher development.. The older variations are left for sale as prints and for you to observe the develoments as they happen.. These works are imagined. They are not observed... not copied from real places.. This souk is a place of the mind. The figures emerge from the painting process. If you have imagination you will see the people and the places, the light and shade, the colors and movement. It's a soft focus world where nothing is defined and anything goes.

My paintings are imagined rather than observed. They are expressive and colourful. It's all about the painting process, applying colour, using texture, making marks. the texture on the surface. The paintings develop over time. They may appear finished at one point but then later are reworked. The work you like may have been several other versions during its lifetime. My enduring influences are many but include mostly Turner, Rembrandt and Rothko. All my paintings are painted around the edges and therefore may not need framing.
