Attilio Manzi is an Italian artist settled in Spain for over 20 years. A vocational cosmopolitan, with a cosmopolitan educational background, Manzi started to exhibit his work in Germany, following his being "discovered" by an art gallery in Munich. From the very beginning his artistic production was placed within the tradition of lyric abstraction, developing in series that, as a whole, conform a wide, articulated discourse that evolves every year in a sustained exploration of new topics and textures (see www.attiliomanzi.com). Nevertheless, some characteristic features remain steady in his style: a fine sense of color, a stroke alternating spontaneous and carefully drawn areas, stains, superpositions, scribbling. As a result, complex canvases come out with a certain symbolic dimension in which recurrent particular gestures distill a fresh spontaneity that recalls the free, light and deep painting of a child, a kind that Manzi states to admire. A basically urban aesthetics contaminated by a wide range of influences, from graffiti to the more sophisticated informal painting of the 50's. Attilio Manzi's work is part of private collections in Italy, Spain, Germany, France, Colombia and the US.
