About The Artwork

... This was worked from model alive, thanking to Itsuyo Terumoto, a japanese model, painter and friend. This is the kind of true chalenge, once there are no help —no photography or any sort of technology. Just me, the model, the tools and the elements around. Yes... I Confess, as title, is the right translation of the moment, once nobody can say that I wasn't there. The mirror doesn't let to lie. And, honestly, I remembered Ken Howard, the great English artist who I see as inspiring creature... It's not a homage to Ken but it's near by, because whem we remember somebody —for good reasons, of course— our memory is honoring the person. This looks like an open space. It can be seen like a moment in which the viewers may feel as watching and, perhaps, thinking on what will be the next step, with silence producing ideas and words... I love to work from model alive, even if it's exhausting. There are, although, the irreplaceable pleasure —no long ago I had had the big mirror as a gift and I was in rush for trying something a little more complex. Oil on canvas is one of the mediums I regularly use. So, the behaviour was the normal —to study the composition, prepare the canvas and giving freedom to the paints. Figurative, obviously, trying to be as "gestural" as possiblel.

Born in September 4, 1952, in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal. My painting has as thematic universe the figure, the composition and the landscape, with no other objective beyond to register moments, people and objects which inspire me the capture; however, each work is itself a little story, a romance that I live along the experimentation. I'm not interested in creating, integrating or influencing any movement, given I look at the affinity between the author and his themes and the relationship between his thoughts and actions as the most important. Therefore, my concern is on improving my capacity for expressing my ideas, using the syntheses as a tool for recreate my visions and not as a kind of wrong conspiracy or as subterfuge, trying to respect the models' etymon, the reason of my involvement. The Naturalism is my starting point...trying to keep on reason and emotion together.
