La Catrina, a colourful lady skeleton with a large hat and elegant clothing, is THE symbol of the Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) and is famous beyond Mexico’s borders. In German, La Catrina translates as something like “the rich” or “the wealthy”. The figure was probably created by the Mexican artist José Guadalupe Posada making fun of the pre-revolutionary Mexican upper class. The cult around the colourful lady skeleton lady has become a popular tradition and many people apply makeup and dress up as La Catrina for “Día de los Muertos”. The Pixar film COCO, also brought La Catrina and Day of the Dead into the limelight and it is now an international phenomena. As I have been working about Mexico in painting, I could not forget the main figure of La Catrina, I had to paint it too. I had much fun to do that.

Barbara Piatti. The Painter Barbara is a narrator. Her paintings are talking about life, meeting people and at the same time they are a diary of her unsaturated curiosity. Piatti's work are philosophical and precious. You sink into them; feel the force of nature and the author's power. She is a traveler, always looking for what could be next:invisibility, unspeakable things and what is proper for discoverers: to surmount horizons, to open new perspectives. Her art reflects all the contrasts life (her life) is giving to us. With her techniques and intelligent presence she is always able to create harmony, in spite of quoted contrasts, a harmony what makes us really dreaming. In her strong presence the works wake up our demands and longings to share the artist's unsaturated curiosity. B.P. the painter, like she calls herself, but she is much more. She is a painter, philosopher and a contemporary traveler, but always an artist. She is a discovery.
