'Michael Collins is one of a new series of oil on cradled panelboard portrait paintings of famous Irish historical figures I am working on. Collins was an Irish revolutionary, soldier, and politician who was a leading figure in the early 20th-century Irish struggle for independence. He was Chairman of the Provisional Government of the Irish Free State from January 1922 until his assassination in August 1922. There are very few artistic representations of Collins which is part of the reason I choose him as the first historical figure in the series. I'm trying to more than just produce an accurate representation of their likenesses. These people were so much more than how they looked. In painting them, I feel obliged to try and convey that. "There is a simple test. Those who are left in possession of the battlefield have won.”– Michael collins
