Göknil Gümüş Sungurtekin was awarded the 1st prize in the 8th Traditional "Sea" Painting Competition in Navy museum in İstanbul in 2004. She won the Sea Painter Award. She received the title of "Navy Artist" from the Commander of the Naval Forces Özden Örnek. Göknil Gümüş Sungurtekin, who received the title of Navy Painter and Honorary Major, became the "First Turkish Female Navy Painter". At the invitation of Naval Forces Commander Yener Karahanoğlu and Naval Forces Commander Metin Ataç, she had the opportunity to watch the Turkish Naval Forces and their archives. She participated in the “2005 Old Salt Sea Operation” as a naval artist and honorary major. Salih Reis watched the naval operations on her frigates for twelve days and took pictures of them. When she returned to her artworkshop in Galata, she added the concept of human power to her impression and painted works of art. She created and produced the Rope Series about the concept of manpower. The naval soldiers who pulling a rope on the frigate inspired her. Her navy paintings were included in the Göknil Gümüş Special Exhibition at the Istanbul Harbiye Military Museum. Sea Painter Göknil Gümüş Sungurtekin's Navy Painter Artworks are constantly exhibited in the hall, museum and archives of the Naval Forces Commands. Göknil Gümüş Sungurtekin 2004 yılında İstanbul'da Deniz Kuvvetleri Müzesi'nde düzenlenen 8. Geleneksel "Deniz" Resim Yarışması'nda 1.'lik ödülüne layık görüldü. Deniz Ressamı Ödülü'nü kazandı. Deniz Kuvvetleri Komutanı Özden Örnek'ten "Donanma Sanatçısı" unvanını aldı. Donanma Ressamı ve Fahri Binbaşı unvanını alan Göknil Gümüş Sungurtekin, "İlk Türk Kadın Donanma Ressamı" oldu. Deniz Kuvvetleri Komutanı Yener Karahanoğlu ve Deniz Kuvvetleri Komutanı Metin Ataç'ın daveti üzerine Deniz Kuvvetleri Komutanlığı ve arşivlerini izleme fırsatı buldu. “2005 Eski Tuzlu Deniz Harekatı”na donanma sanatçısı ve onursal binbaşı olarak katıldı. Salih Reis, fırkateynleriyle deniz harekatını on iki gün boyunca izledi ve fotoğraflarını çekti. Galata'daki sanat atölyesine döndüğünde izlenimlerine insan gücü kavramını da eklemiş ve eserler vermiştir. İnsan gücü kavramı ile ilgili İp Serisini yarattı ve üretti. Fırkateyn üzerinde ip çeken deniz askerleri ona ilham verdi. Donanma resimleri İstanbul Harbiye Askeri Müzesi'ndeki Göknil Gümüş Özel Sergisinde yer aldı.
