About The Artwork
This is done with thousands of little brush strokes. The process is called crosshatching and is more commonly done in monochrome in pencil or pen and ink. I was impressed with a particular Durer drawing and noticed that the marks started out thin, got thicker and then got thin again, ending in a point. When I figured out that these beautiful, precise lines were done with a brush, I took it as a challenge. I ended up going a completely different direction with it, but it started with the Durer brush drawing. I used to carve stone and wood, and the process of building form with crosshatching is very similar to carving.
