About The Artwork

Skeltz 5: Die - Acrylic on canvas Inspiration: The Skeltz dream. Series: Skeltz - I had a dream where I was working for a couple of guys down on Ocean Front Walk, Venice Beach in front of the Bistro. I was the “Skeleton Guy” and I was banging out these poster sized paintings as fast as I could. They all had the same wood grained background, but different colored plaques, and the skeletons were all in different poses. Some had jewelry, cigarettes, or knives. The heart was the one I was working on when it was discovered that someone was selling our concepts to another agency, so I quit. I woke up, wrote down notes on as many of the Skeltz as I could remember, and did a computer generated rendering of the heart. Five years later, I painted the original series of 6.

Traditionally trained and a surrealist at heart, I paint from concepts, dreams and the constant stream of imagery that flows through my consciousness. I avoid figurative subjects unless they play a requisite role in a concept. I find abstract work a much more direct expression of intimate emotions and sensations, as well as a better conduit to convey them to others. Whether it be triumph or desperation, tranquility or risk, visual context and provoked feelings are left to the interpretation of the viewer.
