About The Artwork

Hence back in the days which isn't to much different from these evil days, our people had protection from poison and bad intentions. Although the religious establishments tried to demonize our spirituality and tried to convert us, our ancestors combined the doctrines in order to preserve one of our customs that's our God given right. Since we were given only one black saint by the Catholics, we still adhere to it. However, they use water for purification which we do as well and smoke is used around a casket but we use it for protection toward off evil. There is a tribe in the Amazon of Peru that adheres to this belief and go beyond by using holy plants administered by a shaman called 'Ayahuasca' to travel through the past plus future and other dimensions.

I'm an indigenous, Garifuna, cultural artist from Belize. My intention is to entertain and educate through art. Although my undergraduate degree is in Game Art Design (3D), I minored in Fine Art so my body of work also includes pencil, watercolor, acrylic and oil. My pieces consists of current affairs, historical events, firsthand witness of my childhood observations, dreams, also there are a few paintings inspired by knowledgeable elders based on their experiences and passed oral accounts. Other aspects of my work touch on the social, political and spiritual components of my Garifuna heritage. However, since there is another distinct black culture in Belize known as Creole that makes up the population, we also have the original Mayans, Mestiso, East Indians, middle Easterners and Asians whose lifestyles I try to cover as well.
