About The Artwork

St. Sophia 2017, 50x70 cm, oil/canvas Kyiv with his ancient history and great culture is the one of the most beautiful cities in Ukraine and in the East Europe. It is above one and a half thousand years old! The most prominent sights in Kyiv are religious monuments. There are churches that are nearly thousand years old. Of course the most powerful and overwhelming is the Sofia Kyivska cathedral, which is situated in the center of Kyiv. This sight magnifies with it's beautifulness, power and it breathes history, which you can fill if you touch it's rock walls. I always liked history and art. In this place I found the combination of both. This canvas was created after month of my arrival in Kyiv. In that time I was illuminated by power of gray and uneasy weather. This great cathedral in weather conditions was a stronghold against clouds and sky and sometimes it melted in them.

For me an art is a way of discovering the world around us and ourselves as well. I search for inspiration to create my artworks in plants, animals but especially in the human relationships. It’s very important for me to use images of relative Ukrainian nature. I want to express the warmness of human feelings and its closely connection with nature and the world around us. In general, I can divide my art path into before and after Kyiv. In addition to my classical realistic preferences, there I found a new experience of the vanguard and decorative, icon and monumental painting. In my art I’m trying to use realistic images but make them not instant but more generalized and eternal.
