When I was kid and working in the rice fields my dream was to be an artist, but it would have been easier to walk on the moon. I lived in very rural Thailand in a farming family we were more concerned in make a living then me going to school never mind art school. I was always creative, always drawing but no-one showed any interest most thought I was wasting time. When I was just 13, I had to go to Bangkok to work in what's now known as a sweat shop, we called it a factory back then, we made shirts from early morning till late in the evening with one day off a week which was a Sunday. We worked, ate and slept in the same place but still it was better then those rice fields. The one Sunday, as a group of us factory girls were walking to Chatuchak park where we used to spend the day watching people going to and from the market and listening to music (we had no money to spend on the market) I came across an old art studio with an old man painting with oil paints and I stood and watched him for ages,I was very shy, very nervous I was a kid from the country but he invited me in and showed me what he was doing and showed me round his studio explaining how he worked, I was fascinated. I knew I wanted to be like that old man and paint, I loved that old studio, I loved the chaos the smell of paint, varnish it was fascinating and I was well and truly hooked. I didn't know how I was going to do it but I knew one day I was going to be an artist. But as I say it would have been easier to walk on the moon I had to help support my family. I did get the opportunity to paint much later but never dreamed I would send my work round the world, but I did get that opportunity and grabbed it with both hands, I soaked up information and techniques on art like a sponge. I don't live in Paris, London, Amsterdam or New York yet I've sent my work there thanks to on line galleries, it would have been impossible only a few years ago. Not bad for a girl from the rice fields of Thailand, maybe I should have tried earlier to walk on the moon. Thank You Buddha

Thailand
Ta Byrne is a Thai artist who lives and works on the beautiful island of Koh Samui, just off the south coast of Thailand. Her Oil Paintings . are vibrant, eye-catching and packed with a sense of fun and humour. Ta takes humans as her focal point in her Figurative Painting but abstracts these figures by distorting them and using a cartoonish style to create a more humorous feel. While her work is mostly representational, she incorporates Surrealist elements in many of her paintings, making her one of the most exciting artists working in Thailand today. Ta comes from humble beginnings, living out her childhood on the rural outskirts of Bangkok as a farmer's daughter. During her teen years, she worked sewing shirts in a Bangkok sweatshop, and it was during this time that she met an old street artist who invited her to his studio. This sparked her desire to become an artist, and since then, she has gone on to produce Abstract and Cubist paintings that have received international acclaim from art connoisseurs.
