About The Artwork

This is one of three painting that are connected to a period in my life when I seemed to be wandering around my garden late in the evening. I had driven back from my family home after spending the day looking after my very sick father. There's a magic to the time when the light fades and colours change their reception. Despite knowing the science behind colour wavelength transmission, I still find the transitory moments when the sun fades and the moon takes over, a delightful visual experience. I actually painted this piece some time ago but recently re worked the lighter centre section to make it say what I wanted it to say. Even in the darkest times....

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

My work is concerned with the layering of translucent colour and form built up over time to create ethereal and symbolic imagery. I use paint, gold leaf, digital media and thread to achieve this. My original degree was in education but after 25 years of teaching I returned to the University of the West of England to complete a Masters in Multi Disciplinary Printmaking, gaining a Distinction. My work took a total change in direction, from abstraction to figurative work which embraced the concept of "divine feminine" combining the intricacies of pattern with Gothic aesthetics. I have recently retired from a 36 year teaching career and plan to paint, potter and plot constantly. Like most women artists I have created a studio at home. I live by the sea in South West England. www.rachelcawley.com
