About The Artwork

Continuing with my contemporary two-dimensional sculptures, I wanted to paint a strong and muscular woman that would represent strength, power and decisiveness. Growing up in Mexico City, a famous sculpture of a female archer that sits on Reforma avenue, one of the most popular avenues of the city, La Diana Cazadora (Diana the Huntress), cause a big impact on me, as I would see her standing strong and unashamed as she would aim her bow and arrow to an implied target in front of everyone to see her. This was in the early 80s when women were not commonly seen as strong go getters, but I knew better as the first 11 years of my life I was raised by a single mother, who provide for both of us. I wanted to create a contemporary version with a distorted and exaggerated beauty standards to question old and current the canons.

I'm a multidisciplinary artist based on Appleton, Wisconsin but I was born and raised in Mexico City. My fascination for film, fine art and literature propelled me to become a professional photographer, career I've honed for over twenty years. But my enormous creativity and never ending curiosity forced me to expand my horizon, and in 2009, already in my thirties, I enrolled in the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, where I studied film, creative writing and studio art.  Since then, I've written, directed and shot several independent short films, and have drawn many portraits, life stills and abstract compositions. In 2018, I began body painting, and a year later, I took on fine painting and my oeuvre is rapidly growing. I live in Appleton, Wisconsin with my lovely wife, Heidi and our two cats, Chewy and Raffa.
