About The Artwork

To this day, people keep asking if the title of this painting is ironic or hopeful? Is this a harsh criticism of consumerism? Or maybe every place and every time has the potential for good, light and reflection? Even a seemingly banal shopping center. Of course, you can decide as you like. The inspiration for these painting was one of a polish mall. I sketched there and studied light, reflections, people in hurry. To my surprise, I was completely invisible as I sat there sketching. People staring at shop windows were not at all interested in me. Contrary to appearances, it was a good place to work, very intimate... Painting this work of art was a long process: one year of patient application of successive semitransparent layers of paint. It is very laborious and time-consuming technique: each subsequent layer of paint is applied on the already dried layer. But thanks to them the image has its depth and luminosity.

Agnieszka Wielewska is a painter, but also a set designer and illustrator from Poland. Awarded with many scholarships and prizes and her paintings are exhibited in Poland and abroad. What interest her the most is seeking light: both natural and artificial. Understood in an affirmative way, sanctifying the moment of everyday life. The light is close to poetry that abstract objects and space from their obviousness. Her art focus on tender look for reality. It is a positive narrative with intimate silence.
