The inspiration for this series of paintings spanning over 45 years if Arthur Rimbaud's Poem. This is the most recent expression of it but is also a part of all of my Astronaut Space walk paintings, as well as my ocean and wave paintings - all parts of the same cosmic theme of human participation in the cosmic ocean and the universe. Very important is the realization of one's own individuality within the terrestrial world - especially at this moment when there is a crushing inertia against individuality and the individual. In this sense this is a political statement and a rejection of the collective. It is a call to each viewer to Nature, and a rejection of every enforcement of the mob in society. In this painting version the figure and boat are drawn in charcoal, suffused with and dominated by the 'heavy' water - it is told from the point of view of the ocean instead of the figure (character) and his recitation.
