About The Artwork

This is an evocation of a quiet luminous winter day in this lovely village with the emphasis on the lights and shadows .Les Baux-de-Provence is located in the Bouches-du-Rhône department . It has a spectacular position in the Alpilles mountains, set atop a rocky outcrop that is crowned with a ruined castle overlooking the plains to the south. Its name refers to its site: in Provençal, a bau (also spelt baou) is a rocky spur. It has been named one of the most beautiful villages in France . Realized on a linen canvas it was started on location in winter and then completed in the artist's studio with the help of the sketches and watercolours he had made on location on the hill opposite the village. This oil painting is ready to hang and sold with a certificate of authenticity.
