'Tryst' oil on stretched canvas 24 20 inch with edges painted as part of the scene. Strung and ready to hang The little boy is me at the window with my early childhood friend. We met again years later at art college and resumed our fantastic friendship. She then went to the Slade school of art while I went to Manchester. We kept in touch and a 'Tryst' was made to meet on a given date back home. To cut the story short, "The aloof girl will have many cats" (also in reference to the castle cat in residence shown in the reflection on the car bumper) I don't mind stuffy or even slightly austere, hey we are artists and are supposed to be odd. I don't like indifference or a disdainful haughtiness. I told her that she had changed. She said to me " The problem is, you haven't" Her car is a 1938 Plymouth and I painted in a number plate from an old lorry from the period we first met & remind her of our roots. I'm portrayed as a chauffeur to mock her pomposity, she is characterized as herself, full of exaggerated self esteem To further emphasise the changes in our lives I painted the reflections of the woodland on the car bodywork as ever green while that mirrored on the chrome bumper is native deciduous woods.
