About The Artwork

It's June now. We have been in lockdown for a long time. So long in fact, that it's become the new norm. I planted strawberries/French beans/tomatoes/spinach and endless salad crops. The slugs arrived in their thousands like miniature walruses. They ate everything, almost down to the stumps. The emboldened birds removed the worms from every part of the garden and once that was complete, started on the ripening cherries and polished off the strawberries. Well, that was if the field mice had left them any to have a go at. Sometimes you can hate nature. I replanted as much as I could. Turns out slugs don't like tomatoes so I guess I should get a bumper crop this year. I would have liked a few strawberries but it was not to be. When the cats brought in field mice for my perusal at 3am, I rescued the little bright eyed things, shouting "run!" at the top of my voice, completely forgetting the teeth marks in my favourite English fruit. William Morris had a point.....we are all thieves.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

My work is concerned with the layering of translucent colour and form built up over time to create ethereal and symbolic imagery. I use paint, gold leaf, digital media and thread to achieve this. My original degree was in education but after 25 years of teaching I returned to the University of the West of England to complete a Masters in Multi Disciplinary Printmaking, gaining a Distinction. My work took a total change in direction, from abstraction to figurative work which embraced the concept of "divine feminine" combining the intricacies of pattern with Gothic aesthetics. I have recently retired from a 36 year teaching career and plan to paint, potter and plot constantly. Like most women artists I have created a studio at home. I live by the sea in South West England. www.rachelcawley.com
