The eye is exhausted, fatigued. It has seen so much already. The human eye does no longer concentrate on the image. It moves quickly and only lets in a trace that is stashed in the memory, no more than that. The eye has no memory. The details are no longer necessary to explain the whole. Millions of photographs capture a small piece of reality. A postcard or a souvenir photo don’t tell us much about the situation. Thus the idea of these shots: never fortuitous, carefully thought to highlight a detail that can be revealing of the captured moment. Even to a monument, still and fixed by definition, the eye knows how to give speed, the movement of perception that will become memory, keeping some key information about the subject and the place the picture has been taken. The outcome are images that seem to have been painted, and the camera has indeed been moved like a brush while taking the shot, in short and smooth trajectories.

I graduated from the faculty of Art, Music and Show Disciplines (D.A.M.S) in Trieste, Italy focusing in dramaturgy with a thesis on J.M. Barrie's theatrical works. A passion for theater and the visual aspects of the art inspired further studies in the Advanced Training Course in Stage Photography, supervised by Silvia Lelli and Roberto Massotti, the official photographers of the Teatro alla Scala opera house in Milan from 1979 to 1996. During this time I developed many skills and areas of knowledge relating to theatre photography, from the history of dance and the current state of Italian theater to many facets of photography from it's historic background to image processing, post-production, darkroom and printing techniques. I have also taken a keen interest in the management and preservation of photographic archives for theaters. Highlights of my career include photographic work with Rossetti Theater in Trieste in the mise-en- scene of stage shows featuring Anna Maria Castelli, Luciano Pasini and Antonio Calenda. My portfolio includes photographs of the Bolshoi corps de ballet in Parma, the grand opera Manon Lescaut in Piacenza, the concert Koiné 2010 under the artistic direction of Ivan Fedeleat at Theater of Milan in Dal Verme , the Bergamo Jazz festival, and "Canto la storia dell'astuto Ulisse" in the Piccolo Theater of Milan. I also photographed Torino at the Gobetti Theater, the staging of the Boheme by Francesco Micheli at the Fenice Theater in Venice, and shows with the Cambusa Theater in Switzerland as well as the corps de ballet Martha Graham Company from New York in Giuseppe Verdi Theater in Trieste. My photographs have been published in trade journals such as Musical, Hystrio, Memo Magazzini Culturali and are featured in the portfolios of the actors and dancers I have worked with. I use photography as a means of opening the theater doors to reach out to people, the audience, by capturing the actors' energy and authors' messages in his images. My style and methods are summarized by an inspirational quote by famed photographer, Ansel Adams: "I always thought good photos were like good jokes. If you have to explain it, it just isn't that good." Exploring the artistry of the photographic medium, I have chosen an unusual path. Working in printing analog and instant photography, I achieved creative expression without the options of post production work nor serial duplication through an immediately viewable image.
