About The Artwork

I started this painting after a visit to Africa. I just put intuitive layers and structures on the canvas. At this time I also was thinking a lot about the position of the white man in Africa and the matter of colonism. When I traveled through Africa, I was so inspired of the light, the colors, the people - and at the same time I was ashamed of our human race - that people hunt and kill the animals for profit reasons. I loved the elephant which is such an icredibly social and intelligent species. I guess when I painted this canvas this topic was constantly in my awareness, it was not on purpose but at the end I saw this human face and an elephant in the painting.

WHAT IS MY ART LANGUAGE ABOUT As an artist and an individual, one question runs through my entire life and creative process. To what extent and under what conditions can we, as humans, transform our inner being into an outer existence? Through the analytical approach to this topic, my work shows the struggle between the inner space and the outer form, between closeness and distance, fusion and dispersion. In my creative process I put layers of experienced realities on top of each other, fragments and narratives, my own and from others, consciously and subconsciously. These fragments end up in a mutually dependent and complex tissue, which flattens out onto the existing medium. My process integrates recognizing, uncovering, reducing, linking a slowly appearing existence of what already exists through sublimation into another reality. Transporting what is not obviously visible to the surface is the intrinsic force of my art process. In doing so, I link psychological and philosophical dimensions of the human being, the dilemma of becoming and disappearing and the causality of this to social-societal constraints and artificially created forms.
