Loki is not a portrait—it is a presence. Through layers of rich black oil and embers of fiery copper and rust, this abstract composition captures the raw, elusive spirit of the Norse trickster god. Marina Gorbachova is a Ukrainian contemporary artist based in Canelli, Italy. Her practice centers on deep black abstract paintings in the Outrenoir tradition, drawing influence from Pierre Soulages. In parallel, she creates dynamic figurative illustrations that offer a vivid counterbalance to her minimalist works. Combining acrylic and mixed media, Gorbachova explores the emotional and spatial depth of darkness, using texture, contrast, and restraint to evoke meditative intensity. Her figurative pieces, often created live, capture the immediacy of human presence with sensitivity and clarity. Her works have been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions across Europe, including Italy and Ukraine, and are held in private collections in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, and beyond.
