Netherlands
About Iris During her childhood she did a lot of crafting and drawing. She grew up in a wooded rural area in the Netherlands and thus playfully discovered the colours and shapes of nature. She actually has had a remarkable youth; her deaf father was continuously building and renovating the house which was the perfect playground for a creative kid. Over the years she worked a lot with him, which gave her the skills and insight needed to work with different materials and tools. After attending the art academy in Den Bosch, Iris Schreven first entered the business world before becoming an artist in 2007. Since then she has been working full-time on her paintings, which have continuously grown with her over the years. About her work Iris creates women with elegance. They seem to be dreaming away in a hopeful story. Fearless in her experimentations, she searches for the balance between realism and abstraction in a way that keeps the viewer intrigued. Music, lyrics and nature are her favorite instruments to find the right mysterious atmosphere. Her portraits are built up layer by layer, starting in an abstract styleworking her way to realism until a face reveals itself. The surface is processed to create fine structures and spotty accents. These “perfect imperfections” play an important role in her work; they make each person unique and should therefore be considered as something special. Warm notes of rust Characteristic of her paintings on aluminum is the use of rust, caused by oxidation of metal particles. In addition to knowledge and experience, chance also plays a role in benefiting the end result of oxidation. The phase after rusting - in which all materials flow into each other - is a process with many pitfalls. In addition to paintings on aluminum, she also paints on copper, wood and linen. These surfaces provide a different approach and technique. With her passion for detail, Iris will continue to search for new insights to strive for the highest quality. “Open your eyes and dream” Her work can be found in many private collections both nationally and internationally.
