Marina Geipel is an Austrian-based visual artist whose practice explores memory, material transformation, and the emotional perception of landscape through painting and sculptural objects.
Her recent body of work, Palimpsest, investigates the idea of landscape as a surface that continuously records traces of time. Working with mineral plasters, pigments, acrylic, and wax, she builds layered compositions in which translucent color, texture, and light reveal multiple visual histories beneath the surface.
Alongside painting, Marina develops sculptural works using naturally weathered wood combined with thermochromic glass elements. These interactive objects explore the relationship between nature and human presence, responding to the warmth of touch and making the viewer an active participant in the work.
Rather than depicting specific places, Marina creates spaces between memory and perception, where fragments of mountains, geological structures, and changing light dissolve into abstract forms. Her work invites viewers to slow down and experience material not only as an image but as a living surface shaped by time, transformation, and human interaction.
