Anastasiia Astapenko (b. 1989, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky) is a contemporary Russian artist working in the tradition of academic realism. Her artistic language was shaped by living in various regions of Russia throughout different periods of her life. She received her professional training from masters of the academic school, which determined the strong technical foundation of her practice and her attentive approach to classical tradition. Her paintings are primarily executed in the technique of academic realism, incorporating elements of Impressionist treatment of light and color. Certain compositional solutions reveal features of avant-garde expressiveness. Her graphic works tend toward hyperrealism and are distinguished by a high level of detail. Anastasiia Astapenko’s work represents a synthesis of academic training and contemporary artistic perception.
