About The Artwork

A multitude of irregular shapes defined by size, color, and contour settle into an order which highlights both their individuality and their intrinsic relationship to the whole. United by tonality, and grouped into 4-5 different regions, they merge into personalities or pieces thereof, like the soldier-like figure slightly off center-right who is considering a map based on which to plan his attack of the enemy. However, there are many other, equally valid interpretations that the viewer can easily imagine, such as the horse, a piece of which is visible behind the soldier. In non- representational terms, there is a surge of energy directed to the right upper middle of the work. There, the density of different contours in appearance, much supported by their coloring, is causing the greatest amount of pictorial energy to emerge. The work is printed on Hot Press Fine Art Smooth Bright White paper (an acid free, 100% cotton rag media with a bright textured finish, yielding an extremely high color gamut and black density). It is signed and numbered by the artist, accompanied by a CoA, and shipped without hanging hardware, in a very sturdy tube protected against folding and puncture.

I am an experimental artist working in digital painting, graphics, abstract photography, animation, and textile design. My work is abstract in the sense that I invent shapes, colors, and textures without reference to representational concerns. Working entirely digitally, I consider the boundaries between domains of visual art as entirely permeable. Since I work with a large variety of tools aided by a mastery of controlled random, the outcome of my composition and design processes are unpredictable; their results often straddle the line between established visual-art categories. The majority of my visual work is found on SaatchiArt where my musical compositions and German and English poetry are found at www.ottolaske.com. Outside of my artistic work, I am the founder and director of the Interdevelopmental Institute (IDM), a graduate-level teaching institute for those interested in adult-developmental thinking and research.
