Skipan / Design II 2020, N°3 – 16 charcoal stripes 25x25 cm Drawing

'Skipan' is the icelandic word for 'design' in a comsmic sense. The name is a reference to how order, in the physical and metaphysical realm, tends to break down in a nuanced way in reality. This is precisely what occurs in these drawints, where the fields of charcoal and red sanguine overlap and create a separate reality from the rigid pencilled confines that determin the structure of each drawing.series of drawings made up of compressed charcoal, of varying hardnesses, sanguine and pencil. This series is intimate, sized 25 x 25 cm, with a border of 3 cm, on 180 gm Clairefontaine Dessin à Grain drawing paper. The premises of the work is a series of digits of hexadecimal pi. Each drawing is made up of 16 drawn areas, where the direction of each stripe, its density, location, and width are determined by pi.
