Abandonment Painting

This painting is one of my favorites from a series I did of weathered, worn, and distressed architecture. The weathering, I felt, told a story of what these buildings had been through, their usefulness perhaps running out, and of their innate beauty in the textures and colors of decay that decorate the exteriors against a brilliant cyan sky. They sit quietly soaking up the sun and we hardly notice. This work is inspired by the Ypsilanti Farm Bureau in Ypsilanti Michigan. It's still there, and looks pretty much the same distressed facade as when I originally painted this a number of years ago. Painted in watercolor on Arches 300lb paper, the color goes all the way out to the deckle edges, so the work can be floated within a box frame if needed. It was shown in several exhibitions.
