About The Artwork

The so-called Bautas were worn at meetings by Venetian citizens of the 17th to 18th century in order to vote anonymously. The persons depicted are Prince Philip (in the background) who wears such a Bauta, Queen Elizabeth however wears a beak mask. The idea for the acrylic painting originates from one night’s dream in which the paintress saw the Queen Mum with her pink hat rubbing her fingers in a gesture of “money, money, money”. The implementation as acrylic painting was done using acrylic topped by watercolor pencils and pastels for subtle gradations .

cornelia es said experiments with the transmission of inner and outer boundaries. The human body is at the centre of her practice. To visualise philosophical contexts, she uses a social-scientific approach that employs, among other things, the representation of archetypes and the transference of ancient legends to contemporary issues as means. The work of cornelia es said is understood as organic creation, which she explores from the rough to the precise, from the disturbing to the aesthetic, from the physical to the digital and beyond..
