Black History month brought to mind the harsh and labor intensive labor spent in Cotton Fields, Corn Fields and multiple other commodities, from sun up to sun down with minuscule monetary compensation for the post emancipation slave. Meeting share cropping and such terms exhausted the man and the mule. Neither complained aloud, because there was no other skillset, or means of making a menial existence. There were many mouths to feed, as that large families were needed to make greater impacts on the land owner's field prepping, planting, hoeing, and harvesting. Blisters, rashes, sun burns, tingling from profuse salty sweat. Shade trees were sought when the dinner bell rang, permitting an hour of unchallenged breathing for the man and the mule. The names given to either would not end up on a placard for their selfless, tireless, sweaty contributions. Pug and Buddy had no retirement to look forward to, only a grave when their services were done.
