Yippity Boom De Boom Painting

Yippity Boom De Boom is inspired by recent trips to the desert mountains, casinos, and gold-rush ghost towns of Nevada and Arizona. The few natural springs dotted around Death Valley, California were a particular inspiration. These watering holes are where dusty desert folk and tourists congregate, where weather-worn shacks, RV parks and the odd motel and saloon bar have grown almost organically. A strange brew of eccentric and everyday characters converge to rest, refill their bodies and cars and purchase location-branded souvenirs before setting off into the scorched barren wilderness past the dry bones that litter the edges of the never ending highways. The title "Yippity Boom De Boom" is taken from a line in the final song in the film Grease, representing a unification of characters, a celebration of the moment and a fantastical, celestial finale. This painting was runner-up in the SMIRNOFF WINTER PRIDE ART AWARD 2014 .
