Artist statement
It became important to me in my twenties to explore different media – video animation, all paints, spray paints, mixed media, wood, and collage.
During the mid eighties I became involved in the squatting movement in Amsterdam. I joined creative activists looking to improve housing conditions and domestic environments by painting frescoes and murals. Many images from this time can be seen in suburban photographic archives in the libraries and the Register building.
To me all Arts is about Communication and Invention.
I was born into a family of artists; most notable was Dutch sculptor Nico Onkenhout. My mother wrote poetry, and her dad was a Sunday painter.
I am known for my use of Mixed Media work. I like to work within a theme, and make several artworks about a particular subject-In oils and Acrylics. And yes, I love to Draw… Life model drawing, any free drawing in graphite or Posco pen- inks and charcoal.
