During these Corona days full of uncertainty I am happy to work in my atelier, as always. I feel privileged. Still experimenting with sjablones, like in ‘What is going on?’. This time I used them in the background of this drawing. These are the traces that are left after painting over the sjablone. In my garden nature does not get disturbed by Corona. The Magnolia bursted out with her beautiful white and rose flowers. From the start I made photographs to follow the process of the ‘coming out’. Meanwhile the Magnolia shows us her beatifull flowers. It is a metaphor for how we can feel. No physical contact, stay on a distance. Everybody has to stay inside as much as possible it feels like nobody can see the beauty of the Spring. That feels sad. I am lucky to have a garden where I can enjoy nature. It makes me humble thinking of those in less fortunate circumstances. In this drawing the craw is calling us to come and see the glorious Magnolia. As a lover of Art you are lucky, no need to go outside! This artwork is framed and comes with an international certificate of autenticity, signed by the artist

Monique van Stokkum (1952) is a Dutch artist. Currently she makes drawings. THE DELICATE LINE Since 2015 I make drawings again. In the beginning of my artist careeer I started with drawing (ca. 1975), then a period of painting followed . And now I'm back to my old love. The directness, grim, tenderness and strength of the drawing. THEME Of course I am touched by what is happening in the world. In my work I do not react literally on the world news. Yet it is about universal themes in which people can recognize themselves. The viewer looks for elements of life. My work gets meaning through their associations and fantasies. Landscapes, animals and people are my sources of inspiration. Not strange for someone who is born and raised in the woods. I can now say that the death of my son (2005) brought about major changes in my work. Now, after more than 10 years, I feel the space again which was not there for a long time. Since 2013 I make my Objects to Remember. Large and small painted objects in wich memories may be stored. Works of art with an extra personal significance.
